Dr. M. Salim Uzzaman

Former Principal Scientific Officer, at Department of Zoonotic Diseases, Institute of Epidemiology and Research (IEDCR), under Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), MOHFW, Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh. Graduated from Sylhet Medical college in 1988-89; After Medical Graduation, joined Government Health Care Services in 1991 under DGHS, MOHFW.

Dr Salim Uzzaman obtained Post Graduate Diploma (DTM&H) in Tropical (and Infectious) Diseases epidemiology and later did his Master degree in clinical Tropical (and Infectious) Diseases (MCTM) from Mahidol University, Bangkok, Thailand in 2001 and 2002 respectively. Also obtained post-graduate fellowship in Health Policy, Planning & Economics (HPPE) from Nuffield Institute for Health (NIH), Leeds University, United Kingdom

Dr Salim’s professional area of engagement includes Disease Surveillance, Outbreak investigation & response, Disease control and preparation of management protocols. He is also involved as a resource person for the training of the medical graduates on emerging / re-emerging infectious diseases to update knowledge & disease management guidelines. He is also the coordinator of National Influenza Surveillance, Bangladesh (NISB), Foodborne illness Surveillance (FBIS) and Global Health Security Agenda (GHSA) Action packages activities in Bangladesh at IEDCR.

Dr Salim Uzzaman is also the General Secretary of One Health Bangladesh. Presently as GHSA Program Activity Coordinator at IEDCR, the Focal GHSA institute of MOHFW, also Member of JEE Alliance for Health Security Cooperation at WHO, Geneva representing Bangladesh.
He is also involved in various Research works. His publications are on Infectious Diseases, HIV/AIDS, Substance misuse, Influenza, Enteric Diseases, Hepatitis & Rabies at national and international level. He is actively involved with, National guideline development on various infectious Diseases and tropical disease management of which some are either coordinated or he has made a tangible contribution in those guidelines.

As Public Health professional engaged in the diverse Health care & Public health work for many years both in Govt. and also in Public Private partnership settings, he earned tangible practical skill and the know-how for addressing Public health emergency management and risk communication. Also plays role in mentoring and developing leadership and management capacity of Public health team engaged at different tiers of central, district and Upazilla settings of Bangladesh.
