Darryl R.J. Macer is President of American University of Sovereign Nations, Scottsdale, Arizona, USA. He is Director of Eubios Ethics Institute and Director of the International Peace and Development Ethics Centre at Kaeng Krachan, and also a Research Fellow at the Centre for Ethics of Science and Technology at Chulalongkorn University, Bangkok; Affiliated Professor in Philosophy at Kumamoto University, Japan; Visiting Professor of Bioethics, University of San Jose-Recoletos, Cebu City, the Philippines; Research Fellow, Center for Ethics of Science and Technology, Chulalongkorn University, Bangkok, Thailand; Director, International Peace and Development Ethics Centre, Kaeng Krachan, Thailand; Adjunct Professor, Institute for Investigation in Bioethics (IIB), Monterrey, Mexico; Senior Research Scholar, Fulbright Academy of Law, Peace and Public Health.

He was born in 1962 in Christchurch, New Zealand. He has a B.Sc (Hons) in Biochemistry from Lincoln College, University of Canterbury, 1983; Ph.D. in Biochemistry at the MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology, and Trinity College, University of Cambridge, U.K., 1987; and was awarded an Honorary Doctorate in Philosophy from Kumamoto University, Japan in 2009. He has since worked in USA, UK, New Zealand, Italy, Japan and Thailand

He researched bioethics at Trinity College, University of Cambridge, U.K. 1987-1989. He was a bioethics consultant scientist to the New Zealand Department of Scientific and Industrial Research and the Ministry for the Environment in 1990-1991. He was Foreign Professor at the Institute of Biological Sciences, University of Tsukuba, Japan, 1990-1995. From 1995-2005 he was associate professor at the University of Tsukuba. He is a former Visiting Professor and Visiting Senior Research Fellow at United Nations University Institute of Advanced Studies (UNU-IAS);

He is a member of the Green Ethics Commission, the IUBS Bioethics program, and coordinator of the IAB Genetics and Bioethics Network. He was a member of UNESCO International Bioethics Committee for 5 years, the Board of the International Association of Bioethics for 8 years, and HUGO Ethics Committee for 12 years. He has published 20 authored books, 27 edited books, and 240 peer reviewed academic papers. He taught bioethics at the University of Tsukuba, Japan from 1990-2005, and was Regional Advisor on Social and Human Sciences in Asia and the Pacific, in RUSHSAP, UNESCO Bangkok.
